The Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs

Folk(ish) fuel for your psychedelic soul.

Kendra and Zack Harding form The Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs, a folk(ish)/Americana group hailing from Winston-Salem, NC. The band made its debut in 2015, shortly after the two tied the knot in an old chapel in the heart of the Piedmont.

“The result is something that feels both nostalgic and boldly unfiltered, ideal for fans of Billy Strings, the Infamous Stringdusters, or anyone craving songs that stretch beyond the 30-second scroll.”

-Indifferential Magazine - July 2025

Fans will get a rolling, mid-tempo jam with an organic feel and excellent instrumentation. For anyone who’s into the modern jam scene and acts who roll folk fusion à la Billy Strings, ‘She Drives Me’ offers just the right mix of a nod to tradition and a fresh, personal spin. Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs are on the prowl, windows down, letting the music do the driving.

...Compelling melody, solid arrangement & production, & cool banjo riffin’ vibe.

She Drives Me is a track chock full of banjo-plucking folk and country with a stomping beat and characterful vocals. There’s a vibrant energy to it all while its lyrics speak of love and homesickness. Its rhythm is toe-tappingly infectious and things get beautifully gritty in the chorus. The groove never quits as the track expands to its full length, which is over six minutes, arriving at a psychedelic breakdown of a finish.”
